President Obama decided that he wished to sample the local food by stopping by successful proprietor James Robinson’s BBQ restaurant titled “The Interstate Bar-B-Q Restaurant.” While accompanied by local politicians and the secret service, President Obama walked over to the counter and met with Robinson to place the lunch order.
After some small talk with Robinson about the success of his small business and asking how he could help, President Obama scanned the board behind Mr. Robinson to select a menu item. The yellowed sign offered many local favorites and President Obama selected the Pulled Pork Sandwich. Robinson gladly rang in the order and was happy that President Obama had selected one of his better menu options. It was then that the situation nearly took a bad turn.
President Obama then took another glance at the menu board to decide which side he would like with his pulled pork sandwich. It was this moment that felt like an eternity to Robinson. He prayed silently to himself that President Obama wouldn’t select the onion rings, that had just run out a mere half hour prior to the President’s visit.
“I will go with a side of… fries.” said President Obama. A noticeable sigh of relief was felt by Robinson as he gladly rang in the fries. Obama went with a Sprite to drink as well.
The staff scrambled to get President Obama’s order ready in an efficient and effective manner while Obama sat down with local politicians. Robinson, himself, brought out the President’s meal and wished Obama a great lunch. After just one bite, Obama praised the efforts of Robinson and his staff for a well-made lunch.
Once the fanfare had left James’ Place, that is when a final collective sigh of relief was felt by all the employees. When reached for a comment on the experience, Robinson was quoted as saying “I was nervous there for a second. I thought for sure that Murphy’s Law would come into play and that Obama would order the onion rings. But, thankfully he went with the fries. That was a close one! It’s not like he would have me killed for something that small, right?” He then laughed nervously while darting his eyes from left to right. Afterwards, Robinson mentioned that he assumed that the President’s lunch should increase business and abruptly walked away saying he had to get ready for the dinner service.
